Homemade Playdough

My husband and I haven’t been able to have kids of our own yet so when our friends come to visit with theirs, the kids never have anything to play with. Knowing we’re getting another visit soon, I hopped online to find some neat ways to keep the kids busy. As I was looking, my mom told me about her recipe for playdough that my grandma use to always make her so I thought I would go ahead and do that. What better way to keep a kid busy, right? This was SO much fun!

3/4 Cup Water
3/4 Cup Salt
3/4 Cup Flour
1 Tblsp. Oil
1 Tblsp. Cream of Tartar
Food Coloring

First you want to combine the water, cream of tartar, oil and salt in a pan. Stir and heat the mixture until it gets warm. Remove from heat and mix with the flour. When it starts to get stiff, knead it until it’s smooth. At this point, you can split it up and put 2-3 drops of food coloring on each ball and knead the color in. Folding it works faster to get the color worked through.
Note: If you don’t have cream of tartar on hand, it’s not the end of the world but your dough won’t last as long. The tartar helps keep it fresh for at least 6 months.
When you’re finished, put these into an airtight container and you have playdough for the kids!!
